Dojo? What's that?

It's the training place. Here we meet for training on the tatami (mats).

The word dojo meant the main hall in a monastery. Also now we behave in the dojo very concentrated and serious. For us, budoka (people practicing a martial art) the dojo is more than just a training hall.

There is a calligraphy (with the word aikido in japanese) and a portrait of the Founder on the wall. These things together are called kamiza, the main place of the dojo.

On special days we place an ikebana (a japanese flower composition) under the calligraphy and light a candle. The candle light and the flowers symbolize the flow of the ki (life energy).

On this photo you can see our kamiza during the stage with Alexander Broll. You can see more photos from this stage.
